The National Youth Theatre has been producing ground breaking theatre since
1956. In 2012 we were commissioned to create the first theatrical Team Welcome
Ceremonies in Olympic and Paralympic history. In recent years we've also
created pioneering work at venues including: the Old Vic Tunnels, Europe's
biggest social housing building, the National Theatre, Battersea Power Station,
the Shanghai World Expo, the Unicorn Theatre, the FIFA Club World Cup,
the 2008 Beijing Olympic Closing Ceremony, the Soho Theatre and the National
Centre for Performing Arts in Beijing.
We've commissioned and performed work by leading writers including James
Graham, Tom Stoppard, Rebecca Lenkiewicz, Sarah Solemani, Moira Buffini, Stella
Duffy and Mark Ravenhill. We've also collaborated with theatre-makers at
Kneehigh, the National Theatre, Cheek by Jowl, Bristol Old Vic Theatre and
Phoenix Dance Company.
Our world renowned alumni include actors: Helen Mirren, Daniel Craig, Derek
Jacobi, Catherine Tate, Matt Smith and Sarah Solemani, directors: Michael
Grandage and Matthew Warchus, fashion designer Gareth Pugh, producer Bill
Kenwright and broadcasters Krishnan Guru-Murthy and Jamie Theakston.
Graduates from our technical training have gone on to work on leading shows in
the West End and around the world, from the National Theatre's Warhorse to the
RSC's Les Misrables.
